Cora's Picnic Party

This morning I told the boys excitedly that today was Cora's birthday: her two-month birthday. I should have been prepared for what followed, but they clamored and begged for the chance to throw her a birthday party. Planning a party for a newborn comes with certain challenges, though. For example, any decorations needed to be colorful to catch her attention, but also low enough that her eyes could focus on them. And cake... What kind of cake do you make a baby who isn't even eating solids yet!? I realize I could have done it all simply for the boys' benefit, but why not make the day geared toward her developing awareness of what's around her? Here is a photo journal of our little picnic party:

Her "gift" (we wrapped a toy someone gave us just after she was born in a decorated paper bag. It seemed just right for the occasion).

Her card. The top picture is the front of the card, which Henry designed for her. The back has the message they asked me to write to her. Priceless.

Crazy little party animal.

Some of the distinguished guests:

She smiled almost the entire time!

Baby-friendly (and big brother friendly) decorations.

Who says babies can't enjoy a good piece of chocolate cake?

I asked Thomas to "eat" his cake for the picture. These are his explaining hands. He was explaining to me that he couldn't eat the cake, because we hadn't sung "Happy Birthday" yet.

She loved her gift: little animal finger puppets. She studied them and smiled at them the entire time the boys held them up for her.

And now, a ridiculous number of pictures of the birthday girl. I just couldn't resist.

I wish this picture showed just how blue her eyes are.

She was laughing!

Happy birthday, Munch! We already can't imagine our lives without you!
