Cora's Big Dramatic Ordeal

Some of you have been following us on our journey this past week through Cora's Big Dramatic Ordeal (we'll call it her BDO, to make life easier). The excitement started Monday evening when she had an episode that resembled, for lack of a better comparison, a seizure. After a hurried trip to the ER, a chest xray and blood work, and an admission overnight for observation, here we are. Three days later. She's had every test in the book: 2 chest xrays, an upper GI, and EKG, an echocardiogram, an EEG, a CBC, an oxypneumogram.... As of yet everything has been unremarkable. The most likely culprit for the episode is acid reflux, so she's been put on Zantac to minimize reflux. They've ruled out infection, pneumonia, and a heart condition. She will be going home on an apnea monitor for one month. After that time they'll download the information and evaluate whether she should continue on it for another month. We are still awaiting EEG results, but will hopefully be going home later today.

As you can imagine, the week has often been fraught with worry. We've been overwhelmed by the love and support we've seen from friends and family around the world, and we know well that our precious little girl (and those of us who love her) are being lifted in prayer throughout this whole BDO. Today, after an especially encouraging time with a friend, I was reminded of a Bible passage that has been one of my favorites:
"Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God." 1 Samuel 23:16.

David was stranded in the wilderness, left to await the worst, when Jonathan went to him and "helped him find strength in God." I can't think of a better description of what we've experienced this week. God's strength on our behalf has never changed, but I am thankful beyond words for the Jonathans that he has placed in our life who have helped us remember and find that strength in the midst of our own wilderness!
