Munch the Musician
Cora cracks me up. She's so incredibly full of charm, personality, and spunk. And apparently musicality. We bought Thomas a miniature drum set a while back at a garage sale. At least we thought we were buying it for him. He enjoyed it, and definitely has a sense of rhythm. But his kid sister... She climbed right up to it and set to work tapping out a perfect little beat, hitting the cymbal, booming the bass. She was a natural!
Last week she mastered the kazoo. When I say "mastered," I mean she crawls everywhere with it in her mouth now, buzzing out a little tune. At least we know where she is.
Today she thought she needed an additional instrumental challenge, so she took up playing the recorder. I didn't think one-year-olds new how to blow into an instrument. Turns out they do. She hooted and whistled out a little song like any fourth-grader would on their first day out.
Henry found a regular whistle to blow. She liked the sound, so she imitated it. Perfectly. She later gave it a shot on her own, but between the drool and chubby baby lips, there was no room for the air to exit the whistle. She was disappointed in her progress there, so she went back to humming to herself instead.
We continue to shake our heads and wonder in amazement as our kids' personalities unfold and we discover their natural gifts and abilities. It's like watching a great story (or in her case, song) unfold!
