Duffy List
While we were away for the interview, Micah's parents watched the kids. They had just visited Disney World, so they brought a few little surprises. One of them was a book for Cora. It was about a bear named Duffy, and how he went with Mickey on all of his travels to keep him from being lonely. Mickey and Duffy had their pictures taken everywhere they went and they sent them home to their friends.
It prompted a thought. This move is unlike any I've made before in that we have the kids to consider. They know (at least in part) that moving to Illinois means leaving behind their friends, grandparents, familiar places... We have an incredibly long to-do list to pull off a move in just under two weeks, but we're trying to keep packing to a minimum when the kids are awake and spend the bulk of our time with them. The school was wonderful and gave us several pamphlets on the area we'll be moving to. Henry has pored over them, asking about the different attractions and trying to find Route 66 on the maps. It's helped prepare him for what's next. Still, I've been trying to find some way to bring them closure before the move.
Duffy provided a great idea. The boys had already dug out their teddy bears, pretending they were "Duffy." We told them that we will make a list of all the places they want to take their bears before we leave. We'll take pictures of them with the people they choose and in their favorite places, and then put those pictures in a little photo album. I hope it helps, not only to serve as a great keepsake, but to give some closure.
So today we start our Duffy lists. We're going to the zoo with our best friends, and I'm sure there'll be some Duffy pictures (as well as some great memories!).
