Henry's Date

Tonight we took Henry out on a date. Our goal is to take each of the boys out alone before Cora arrives. We waited until after naptime to tell him our plans. He ran to Thomas and said, "Thomas I'm going to see Cars 2 at the FEATRE! Do you want to come too?" The idea of being apart is almost foreign to them--not because they're never apart, but because they seldom want to be.

We dropped Thomas off at Nonna's house and headed to the theatre. Henry wasn't sure what to expect. He sat nervously in his little booster waiting for the previews to start. Halfway through the first one, he leaned over to me and whispered, "This is FUN!" He had a comment for every preview and every minute of the first 30 minutes of the movie. It was magical to see it all thru his little 3-year-old eyes. The movie was great, although more intense than we'd anticipated. He curled up in my lap and snuggled in for the last half. It was bliss.

On our way out of the theatre, Micah asked what he had thought of the movie. He looked up at Micah and said very seriously, "It was pretty good, but, Daddy, I got a little sleepy."
We went on to Coldstone for a little ice cream treat. We gave him his pick of flavors and mix-ins. He chose strawberry ice cream--only strawberry ice cream. Cheap date! He slurped and drank until he'd literally gotten every last drop.

We left for the car hand in hand, his daddy on one side and me on the other. We'd only taken a few steps when he said, "One, two, three!" and kicked his feet up in the air. He swung from our arms with every other step. I honestly think it was the part of the evening he enjoyed most. It was so fun to give him undivided attention.
We asked Thomas what he wanted to do for his date. His answer? "Go to the zoo--with Henny!"
