Cora-lating Words
When she was little, Cora was a sweet little whirly twirly, quirky toddler. Everything she did was charming. She hasn't lost that charm through the years, but it's morphed into a different form. She still has a knack for sidling up to a person, slipping her little hand in theirs, and warming them with her presence. But the way she talks has retained that quirky, purely-Cora pattern.
She has this incredibly cute tendency to blend words. It's never intentional, but the result is always a new word that just barely resembles what she meant to say. It happens so often that we all recognize it and laugh that another word or sentence has been "Cora-lated." There have been many, many examples, but here are a few of my recent favorites from the Dictionary of Cora:
-Pelikeet: a pelican (meets parakeet, I would assume)
-Recordian: an accordian (that is best friends with a recorder)
-Complimize: a compliment (not to be mistaken for a compromise...)
-Santatizer: hand sanitizer (with a Christmas flare)
-Effective: offensive (as in, "Is is effective to talk about people from Texas?" Yes. Very effective. Not at all offensive.)
-Chicken: any meat of any kind. She calls meat by the wrong name 100% of the time, which is usually met by all of us saying in unison, "Cora, it's STILL pork!" or whatever the correct meat may be.
-"When did we first meet this restaurant?": in Cora speak, means something along the lines of, "When was the first time we visited this restaurant?" Everything is a friend, even restaurants...
