Advent Notes

Christmas is not about the things we get and building up our comfortable worlds. At the same time, it is a season that brings hope and speaks into our futures. In light of that, we decided to do something a little different this year. Each of our kids has had a difficult time of it recently and they've often been left depleted and full of self-doubt. So we reached out to family and some friends and asked them to help us speak life into our kids. This was the result.

Each day the kids have a little note from someone "calling out the good" they've seen in them. Some list accomplishments they've achieved this year, character traits that bless others, bright talents that they'll use in the future, or sweet things they've done for others. They have loved it! They rush downstairs each morning to see what their notes say (and they've been turning the houses upside down after they read them to count down the days until Christmas).

Sometimes the season of advent is an opportunity to be kind, to breathe life into one another, to help each other's souls feel their worth (as the song says). I'm thankful for a tribe of people who were willing to do this for our kids this year.
